PUWER

Also known as: Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

PUWER is the UK law requiring that work equipment is suitable, maintained, inspected and safe for the people who use it.

PUWER stands for the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. They require that any equipment used at work, from hand tools to plant and machinery, is suitable for its purpose, maintained in safe working order, inspected where needed, and used only by people who have had adequate training.

PUWER covers work equipment in general, while LOLER adds specific duties for lifting equipment. Together they underpin the safe use of tools and machinery on site.
