RAMS
Also known as: Risk Assessment and Method Statement
RAMS stands for Risk Assessment and Method Statement: two documents that set out the hazards of a task and the safe way to carry it out.
RAMS is shorthand for a Risk Assessment and Method Statement, usually supplied together before higher-risk work begins on site. The risk assessment identifies the hazards, who could be harmed and the controls. The method statement sets out, step by step, how the task will be done safely using those controls.
Most principal contractors ask subcontractors for RAMS before they start on site. For a fuller explanation of the risk assessment half, and how the two documents work together, see our guide to construction risk assessments.
