LOLER
Also known as: Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
LOLER is the UK law covering lifting equipment: it must be strong enough, positioned safely, and thoroughly examined at set intervals.
LOLER stands for the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. They apply to equipment used for lifting or lowering loads, such as cranes, hoists and slings. The equipment must be suitable and strong enough for the load, positioned and used safely, and subject to thorough examination by a competent person at set intervals.
LOLER often works alongside PUWER, which covers work equipment more generally. Keeping the examination and inspection records for lifting equipment up to date is a key part of staying compliant.
