How to access and share your linking code
This guide explains how subcontractors find their linking code and share it with a main contractor. The linking code connects your Sync account to theirs, so they can share their projects, inductions and drawings with you.
- What it is
- A unique code that connects your Sync account to a main contractor’s.
- Where to find it
- In your account, on the Linked Portals tab.
- Who can access it
- Admins. Account settings are permission based.
- What it does
- Lets a contractor share their projects and inductions with you.
Before you start
Before sharing your linking code, check the following:
- You have a Sync subcontractor account.
- You are an Admin, or an Admin can share the code for you.
- You know which main contractor you are linking with.
Go to your account
From the main Sync dashboard, select Account from the left-hand menu. Your company area opens with several tabs, including Linked Portals, Company details, Users, Roles and more.
Find your linking code
Open the Linked Portals tab. Your unique code is shown under Your Linking code. Below it, the Linked Portals table lists any contractors you are already connected to.
Copy the code
Select the copy icon next to the code to copy it. The code is a short set of letters and numbers with dashes, for example T9Z6-MSBS-S6QB. Copy it exactly, including the dashes.
Share it with the contractor
Send the code to your contact at the main contractor so they can link your portals.
Copy the code and send it to your contact at the main contractor by email or message.
Only share the code with contractors you have agreed to work with. It links your accounts.
The contractor links you
The main contractor enters your code in their Sync account to establish the link. This connection is what lets them share their projects with you. You do not need to do anything else at this point.
Check your Linked Portals
Once the contractor has added your code, they appear in the Linked Portals table. Each row shows:
- Status, such as Active.
- Linked From, the contractor’s name.
- Link Type, for example Contractor.
- Date Linked.
A status of Active means the portals are connected.
Access shared projects
Once linked, open Projects from the left-hand menu. Any projects the main contractor has shared with you appear here, ready to view, check in to and complete inductions on.
Common issues
Account settings are permission based. If you are not an Admin, ask an Admin in your company to open the Linked Portals tab and share the code.
Check they have entered it exactly, including the dashes. Copy it again from the Linked Portals tab and resend it.
The link only appears once the main contractor has entered your code at their end. Ask them to add it, then refresh the Linked Portals tab.
Contact your Sync administrator or the Sync team to review or remove a portal link.
